Spring adventure holidays - 3 -
East Coast Trek

Itinerary (1)

Day 1 :
Fly from Paris to Longyearbyen.

Day 2 :
Acclimatisation in Longyearbyen: preparation, distribution and verification of/ familiarisation with equipment. Small outing around Longyearbyen in order to fine-tune adjustments.

Day 3 :
Morning departure from the end of the Longyearbyen road. We climb the big valley of Adventure (Advendalen) on ski towards the North. After a small pass at 160m of altitude, we set up camp next to the huge Sassendalen Valley.

Days 4 to 5 :
Our husky-teams join us at the camp. With them, controlled by Mushers (husky-team leaders), we can start crossing Spitzbergen between Sassendalen and the East Coast.
The pulkas (skiers’ sledges) are pulled by the Esquimo dogs on their sledges.
The trek is made at a reasonable speed, which gives us the time to contemplate the landscape and to see a reindeer or a grouse here and there. In the evening, contact with the huskies around the camp revives the ancestral traditions of the Inuits.

Days 5 to 14 :
In the middle of the huge Argarth plain, we leave our huskies and continue alone. Pulling our pulkas, we ski on the ice floes. We make the most of the first kilometres to familiarise ourselves with our new universe, an opportunity to come across seals bathing in the sun. We have been known to camp out on the ice floe.

Moving towards the South, we join the magnificent ice floe of Inglefjeld, which is encircled by 3 glaciers plunging down onto the stationary sea. The sensation we feel at this moment, seized by the beauty of the ice fields and the infinite landscapes interrupted only by the silhouettes of mountains, is incredible. We are in polar bear territory.

After leaving the ice floe, we climb the Norsyssel glacier and then come down onto the vast Kjellström Valley. We return via the lands where every valley followed leads you to a unique world: Kjellström, Lundstrom, and, finally, Advendalen, which is opposite Longyearbyen.

Day 15 :
Stand-by day in Longyearbyen in case of bad weather. Free time and comfort.

Day 16 :
Fly from Longyearbyen to Paris.
